What you will learn at this facility
This facility was built to commemorate the victims of the earthquake and to provide a place of solace for the bereaved families.
It preserves the memory of the scenery of the stricken areas of Obama, Haragama and Isobe districts from before the disaster, and also serves as a place where visitors can interact with each other.
Visitors can learn about the conditions from before and after the Great East Japan Earthquake through photographs, videos, and the words of storytellers.

Panel exhibition and video viewing
Photographs of scenery from before the earthquake and local events are on display.
By comparing them with photographs taken on the day and the aftermath of the earthquake, you can see how things have changed as a result of the disaster.

Ownerless photographs
About 500,000 photographs whose owners are unknown are shown to the public. Photographs on display are only a portion of the vast collection of photographs under our care. As you look at the photographs, please think about what the earthquake took away from the people.

Memorial site
In front of the facility is a memorial site with the names of 458 victims of the earthquake. Please take a look at it first.

Memorial monument
A memorial monument has been erected outside the facility. The monument bears the names of the victims in the district and the circumstances of their demise.
