What you will learn at this facility
Komine Castle Ruins, which is recognized as a cultural property, suffered extensive damage from the Great East Japan Earthquake including the collapse of 10 stonewalls.
Subsequent research revealed that most of the stonewalls that survived the earthquake were built during the Edo period. For the restoration work, traditional construction methods were used.
The park and guidance facility, Komine Castle History Museum, tell the story of the progress from the time of the disaster to the completion of the restoration of the stonewalls.

The process from the disaster to the restoration of the stonewalls are shown. Many people’s hard work went into the restoration process such as gathering photographs of the stonewalls before the disaster from the residents and researchers, and excavation work to determine the structure of the stonewalls.
Please take a look at the history of how the symbol of Shirakawa City was restored.
